What Exactly is Marriage?
So much has been said about marriage. This is not surprising considering it is the very object that gives rise to society. It is a concept that has existed through all ages. It is nothing new and it has with very many definitions. The following is a description that will ensure all people understand what it is all about. It is a social, religious, spiritual and even legal union of individuals. It is also called matrimony and often referred to as 'holy' in many circles and spheres of society. People who are married are said to be in wedlock. This is an institution that has always commanded a lot of respect in society. However, with the advent of modern unions, a lot has changed and little can be said about respect. It is not all gloom and, doom because many singles are constantly looking for singles they can date and, eventually enter into marital bliss with. The event of a wedding marks the genesis of the marriage relationship. The relationship in this institution is usually interpersonal and this has got to be the highest level of intimacy.
The state and religious authority acknowledges this institution and, when there is a legal issue between a husband and wife, they might have their rights as specified by the laws of the land. A civil marriage is the legal concept of a union. People enter into marital relationships for many reasons. The most common reason why people do it is to declare love publicly. This is because when you marry someone, the whole world will know that you chose to be with them for the rest of your life; it a strong statement of love or affection. The other reason why people get into marriage is for sexual reasons. Sex is mostly legal and acceptable in a marital union. This is so from a religious perspective as well as a cultural one. People who find themselves unable to contain their sexual urges will try many means but, marriage is the most recognized way to get your conjugal needs met. People will also get into such an institution to fulfill the need as dictated by society.
There comes a time where getting a man or woman to marry is what everyone would expect of you. For this reason many get married. As I continue with the reasons why people get married, it is helpful to keep in mind that not all people conform to such reasons. The other reason why people find themselves in marital relationships is to be stable economically. This is because the institutions almost make partners equal in terms of ownership of property and the like. Being with someone who can provide for your upkeep is enough to get married for many. Another thing that the institution fulfils is the procreation bit. People have entered into it because they want to rear children and bring them up in a family setting. This is because it is not only economical to bring up children in wedlock but, it is wholesome and healthy for the offspring. The above example mainly focuses on an ideal and peaceful set up.
